We as renters of the bike aren’t responsible for the person that drives around without permit. But we strongly suggest to have a license to legally participate in traffic. Especially because the government can sometimes extra check foreigners because their driving style is usually very different than locals.
When police stops you in Thailand
When a police officer stops you in Thailand, first and most important is to show him respect. Usually the officers are also very respectfull. when they see you dont have a drivers license, you will pay usually a 1000 bath fine. And sometimes the police officer can ask you for a 2000 bath fine. If you get the fine than usually you have the option to go with the officer to the police station. Most of the times they will than forfeit the ticket. My advice is to always make a transfer and or follow the officer to the police station. Than you can easily pay the ticket, which might be even cheaper than what the police officer might have said. Even when that happens, always stay respectfull to the police officer.
